Calling&nbsp;ten of his servants,&nbsp;he gave them ten minas, and said to them, \u2018Engage in business&nbsp;until I come.\u2019&nbsp;But&nbsp;his citizens hated him and sent a delegation after him, saying, \u2018We do not want this man to reign over us.\u2019&nbsp;When he returned, having received the kingdom, he ordered these servants to whom he had given the money to be called to him, that he might know what they had gained by doing business. The first came before him, saying, \u2018Lord, your mina has made ten minas more.\u2019&nbsp;And he said to him, \u2018Well done, good servant Because you have been&nbsp;faithful in a very little,&nbsp;you shall have authority over ten cities.\u2019&nbsp;And the second came, saying, \u2018Lord, your mina has made five minas.\u2019&nbsp;And he said to him, \u2018And you are to be over five cities.\u2019&nbsp;Then another came, saying, \u2018Lord, here is your mina, which I kept laid away in&nbsp;a handkerchief;&nbsp;for I was afraid of you, because you are&nbsp;a severe man. You take&nbsp;what you did not deposit, and reap what you did not sow.\u2019<sup>&nbsp;<\/sup>He said to him,&nbsp;\u2018I will condemn you with your own words,&nbsp;you wicked servant! You knew that I was&nbsp;a severe man, taking what I did not deposit and reaping what I did not sow?&nbsp;<sup>&nbsp;<\/sup>Why then did you not put my money in the bank, and at my coming I might have collected it with interest?\u2019&nbsp;<sup>&nbsp;<\/sup>And he said to those who stood by, \u2018Take the mina from him, and give it to the one who has the ten minas.\u2019&nbsp;And they said to him, \u2018Lord, he has ten minas!\u2019&nbsp;<sup>&nbsp;<\/sup>\u2018I tell you that&nbsp;to everyone who has, more will be given, but from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away. But&nbsp;as for these enemies of mine, who did not want me to reign over them, bring them here and&nbsp;slaughter them before me.\u2019\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-large-font-size\"><strong>Discussion Questions:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Theme:&nbsp;<\/strong><strong>&nbsp;Proper stewardship of disciples during his absence<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>1.&nbsp; What does \u201cengage in business\u201d (verse 13) refer to?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>2.&nbsp; What did the unfaithful servant do wrong?&nbsp; What is the least he should have done instead?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>3.&nbsp; What does the last verse, 26, mean?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-large-font-size\"><strong>Discussion Summary:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>In this parable the servants are each given 1 mina.&nbsp; A mina was a common unit of currency equal to 100 denarii or a 100 day\u2019s wages.&nbsp; Each servant was to take this amount and engage in business with it.&nbsp; This represents that each believer is given the same grace of God, the same justification.&nbsp; Each believer is to use that justification to grow and increase their faith (John 15:2).&nbsp; This increase results in character development (2 Peter 1:5-8).<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Each believer is also given justification in order to be engaged in the Lord\u2019s service.&nbsp; We all have been given a commission to preach the gospel to others and not just keep the knowledge of God to ourselves (John 20:21-23).<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>The wicked servant who did not engage in business but kept his mina hidden, represents those who neglect the grace of God that they have been given (2 Peter 1:9).&nbsp; This is due to a wilful misunderstanding of the character of our Lord (Luke 9:26).&nbsp;&nbsp; Like Job, they question his actions (Job 40:1,2).<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>This wicked servant should have realized that the Lord accepts the little that we do and is happy to reward our little with more (Matthew 25:24).&nbsp; All believers have opportunities in their lives to serve the Lord.&nbsp; When we consider that praying for others in the quiet of our own homes is part of that service (James 5:16), we should be encouraged that we can be faithful servants no matter what our circumstances.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>The last verse sums up the lesson on stewardship.&nbsp; It teaches that we must be faithful with what we have been given.&nbsp; This same principle is given in different contexts throughout the gospels (Mark 4:21-25; 13:12; Luke 8:16-18).<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>March 8, 2026 Luke 19:11-27 ESV As they heard these things, he proceeded to tell a parable, because he was near to Jerusalem, and because&nbsp;they supposed that the kingdom of God was to appear immediately.&nbsp;He said therefore,&nbsp;\u201cA nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom and then return.
