It is thrown away. He who has ears to hear, let him hear.\u201d<\/strong><strong> <\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-large-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Discussion Question:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>In our previous study (verses 15-24) Jesus spoke about those who refused the invitation to God\u2019s banquet.&nbsp; However, Jesus now sets forth the details of what accepting that invitation means.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>What are the conditions of discipleship?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-large-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Discussion Summary:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Jesus began his ministry with a call of discipleship to simple fisherman (Matthew 4:18-20).&nbsp; He invited them to \u201cleave all and follow me.\u201d&nbsp; He will reiterate this call to the rich young ruler in Luke 18:22.&nbsp; This is the core condition of discipleship.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Hating our family and even our life is an obvious exaggeration designed to startle the hearer and make them understand that they must love God and his son supremely.\u00a0 This is shown by the parallel scripture in Matthew 10:37.\u00a0 Disciples must have unconditional love for God recognizing that he is more valuable than anything else.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>As we begin this new life of discipleship we have no idea of what experiences we will be given.&nbsp; We understand that they will involve sacrifice and suffering as represented in the cross that we bear (Romans 5:3-5).&nbsp; However, we do have to consider whether we have given our full heart loyalty to God.&nbsp; If we have we can give our \u201call\u201d and trust in the power of God working in us.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Assessing our heart loyalty is an important first step.&nbsp; The example of a tower builder gives us the idea that if we can put our trust in the architect, the blue print we will have the ability to construct the finished product.&nbsp; The example of the battle shows us that even if we are outnumbered 2 to 1 by spiritual foes we will be the victor as long as we have remained loyal to God in our hearts.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>August 10, 2025 Luke 14:25\u201335 ESV Now great crowds accompanied him, and he turned and said to them, &nbsp;\u201cIf anyone comes to me and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple. &nbsp;Whoever does not bear [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[1],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-413","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-uncategorized"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"http:\/\/winnipegbiblestudents.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/413","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"http:\/\/winnipegbiblestudents.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"http:\/\/winnipegbiblestudents.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/winnipegbiblestudents.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/winnipegbiblestudents.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=413"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"http:\/\/winnipegbiblestudents.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/413\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":415,"href":"http:\/\/winnipegbiblestudents.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/413\/revisions\/415"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"http:\/\/winnipegbiblestudents.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=413"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/winnipegbiblestudents.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=413"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/winnipegbiblestudents.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=413"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
