{"id":266,"date":"2025-03-16T19:53:46","date_gmt":"2025-03-17T01:53:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/winnipegbiblestudents.com\/?p=266"},"modified":"2025-03-16T19:55:15","modified_gmt":"2025-03-17T01:55:15","slug":"the-calling-of-a-christian-in-a-memorial-context-in-1-peter-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/winnipegbiblestudents.com\/?p=266","title":{"rendered":"The Calling of a Christian in a Memorial Context in 1 Peter 1"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/winnipegbiblestudents.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/1-Peter-1_2-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-267\" srcset=\"http:\/\/winnipegbiblestudents.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/1-Peter-1_2-1024x576.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/winnipegbiblestudents.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/1-Peter-1_2-300x169.jpg 300w, http:\/\/winnipegbiblestudents.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/1-Peter-1_2-768x432.jpg 768w, http:\/\/winnipegbiblestudents.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/1-Peter-1_2-1536x863.jpg 1536w, http:\/\/winnipegbiblestudents.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/1-Peter-1_2-2048x1151.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>At this season of the year we want to turn our attention to our Lord\u2019s death and sacrifice.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>We want to see the Passover picture and its concepts throughout the scriptures not only during the Memorial season, but all of the year because we live the reality every day.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>1 Peter 1:1\u20132 ESV<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>1 <\/strong><strong>Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who are elect exiles of the Dispersion in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia, <\/strong><strong>2 <\/strong><strong>according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in the sanctification of the Spirit, for obedience to Jesus Christ and for sprinkling with his blood: May grace and peace be multiplied to you.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>We would like to focus on the phrase \u201cthe sprinkling of the blood of Jesus\u201d.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>The calling of a Christian is \u201cthrough the sanctifying action of the spirit, because of the obedience and the sprinkling of the blood of Jesus.\u201d (NEB)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>In the Old Testament, once a sacrifice was slain the blood was then applied to different objects.&nbsp; For example, it was sprinkled on the people during the inauguration of the covenant (Exodus 24:8), and it was sprinkled on the altars on the Day of Atonement (Leviticus 16:14, 18, 19). During Passover the blood was struck\/brushed\/smeared\/wiped on the doorposts and lintels of the house (Exodus 12:22).<\/strong><strong>&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-large-font-size\"><strong>Question:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Using this Passover picture, discuss how and why the blood was applied to us.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>When does this picture take place?<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>What happens when the blood is applied to a person?<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Why do we say we apply it to the doorposts of our heart?<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>In the antitype what is the difference between the lamb being slain and the blood being brushed onto the house?<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-large-font-size\"><strong>Discussion Summary:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>The Passover lamb\u2019s blood was placed on the door frame of each family\u2019s home. &nbsp;Jesus\u2019 death opened up an opportunity for all those willing to hear the word of salvation.&nbsp; 1 Timothy 1:10.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>The sprinkling of the blood refers to justification, forgiveness of sins, reconciliation with God, a cleansing of our hearts from sin and the legal relationship we now have as God\u2019s children.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Jesus\u2019 blood is applied to us when we \u201cbelieve in him\u201d (Ephesians 1:13) and as we continue to \u201chold fast our confidence [in him]\u201d (Hebrews 3:6).&nbsp; We can then \u201cdraw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience\u201d (Hebrews 10:22).&nbsp; Other implications of this application of the blood, such as the Mediator, the Law Covenant, the New Covenant, and the Holy Spirit\u2019s work in us are found in a close reading of Hebrews 8-10.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>The Passover blood was not \u201csprinkled.\u201d&nbsp; The word is translated in different ways &#8211; many times as simply as \u201cput on.\u201d&nbsp; Other times as \u201cstrike,\u201d \u201cdaub,\u201d or \u201csmear.\u201d&nbsp; In its basic sense it is pointing to the fact that it is not enough that Jesus died for our sins.&nbsp; Through belief we have to accept that full forgiveness.&nbsp; The translation of the word \u201cstrike\u201d in Exodus 12:22 reminds some of the heavy cost of that blood \u2013 Jesus\u2019 crucifixion.&nbsp; To others the word \u201cstrike\u201d conveys the powerful act of faith that is needed to truly believe in Jesus as our Saviour.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>At this season of the year we want to turn our attention to our Lord\u2019s death and sacrifice.&nbsp;
